Mitchels Avenue 5-3 Mastergeeha B
Mitchels Avenue retained the Tommy Healy Memorial Cup with a win over Mastergeeha B team in Mounthawk Park . Mitchels Avenue took the lead in the ninth minute when keeper David Hennessey cleared the ball down field towards Lorcan Seymour whose pinpoint pass picked out Lazar Radulescu and he made no mistake finding the far top corner. In truth Mitchels Avenue could have been further ahead early on but for some fine goal keeping by Jerry Cronin in the Mastergeeha goal. On the half hour mark Mastergeeha nearly got level but David Hennessey denied Tom Templeman from close range. Mitchels doubled their lead in the 40th minute when Lazar Radulescu was taken down in the penalty area and Sean O’Reilly made no mistake with the spot kick. The scoring wasn’t over yet as in the final minute of the half Lazar Radulescu won possession and beat the last defender before chipping the advancing keeper to give Mitchels Avenue a three nil lead at the break.
Mastergeeha came out in the second half and went for it as they had nothing to lose at this stage and within a few minutes of the restart they pulled a goal back after Daniel Moynihan got on the end of a Kevin Bruton free kick to score. Minutes later and Mastergeeha were back in the game when David Hennessey punched clear a Kevin Bruton corner but was met by an outstanding strike from John Devane which found the back of the net to leave the score at 3-2. Mitchels Avenue who had already lost twice this season when ahead by three goals were now under serious pressure from Mastergeeha but on the hour mark they again extended their lead when Liam O’Sullivan reacted quickest to some hesitation in the Mastergeeha defence to score. David Hennessey denied Gearoid Kerins as Mastergeeha came again where the next goal was going to be vital for both sides. This goal came in the final ten minutes and it was for Mitchels Avenue when Lorcan Seymour fired an unstoppable shot giving Jerry Cronin no chance. Mastergeeha got a another goal late on from a Joe Joe Fleming free kick but it was little to late for Mastergeeha.
League Secretary John O’Regan presented the Cup to the Mitchels Captain Chris O’Sullivan.
