Killarney Celtic are the only Kerry side left in the Munster Youth Cup and this weekend they face into a quarter final tie against Cork side Kilreen Celtic . Killarney Celtic have scored are 19 goals in this competition so far while they have only conceded on four occasions . Kilreen Celtic have scored 21 goals in their four games in this competition while they have conceded only concede on just two occasions . Looking at these stats its looks like it will be a very close game with both sides well able to score but also neither give away many goals .
Killarney Celtic’s manager James Hurley told me earlier in the week that preparations for Saturday going well . “We train with our senior team every Tuesday night so that we are prepared for the physical opponents we meet as proved key to us beating Regional in the last round at the beginning of January as the were a very strong and physical team. We train Thursday nights by ourselves to go through formation and tactics/set plays etc. We have one member of our squad missing due to injury in last round, Connall Murphy. We used our last game against Killarney athletic to try some fringe players and players in different positions all of which impressed us so it is a tough task to pick our 11 for Saturday”.
Kilreen Celtic are managed by Richard Fitzgerald . Earlier this week he told me about how preparations are going for Saturday , “we are delighted to be in the quarter final and looking forward to the game. We have a few injuries at the moment Rob Lynam (ankle) & Ian Towler (knee) both out long term and a huge loss to us for Sat. We still have a strong panel to select from and we have also called up two under 16 players Lee Cooke & Jack Shields who are playing very well for us this year. We are expecting a very tough game on Saturday and expect there will only be a goal in it. We had a tough game in the last round away to Aishling Annacotty so we are delighted to be at home in the quarter final”.
With a place in the last four up for grabs both sides will be hoping to get through in what looks to be a very intriguing cup tie . An away tie against Nenagh AFC or Waterford Bohemians await the winners .
All of Kerry Soccer will be hoping that Killarney Celtic can continue their run in the competition and advance to the last four with a win on Saturday and maybe even go all the way and claim the trophy like they did in 2011 when they defeated Waterford Bohemians in the final .
