Killarney Celtic 6-0 Killarney Athletic
Two early goals due to defensive errors and a sending off decided this Jimmy Falvey Memorial Youth League Final as Killarney Celtic proved far too strong for their local rivals Athletic.
Celtic took the lead in the 6th minute when a defensive mix up allowed Brendan Falvey to shoot past a helpless Athletic keeper.
Then with Celtic dominating Ryan Carroll of Athletic left himself and his team-mates down with an act of indiscipline that saw him get a straight red. Then disaster for Athletic approaching half time when another poor back pass saw Athletic keeper Stephen Cahalane being forced to take Brendan Falvey down inside the box and David O’Sullivan made it 2-0 from the spot as Killarney Celtic led 2-0 at the interval.
Despite the introduction of Jeff O’Donoghue, Cian Horan and Garry O’Leary, Athletic created precious little in the second half with only ten minute and Celtic went on to score four more goals, with Robert Watson and David McCarthy scoring crackers while Jamie Spillane and Chris Brady added two late on as Athletic lost their keeper through injury and finished with only nine but Killarney Celtic were worthy winners of yet another trophy to add to the Munster Youths Cup and they were beaten FAI Youths Cup finalists.
It was fitting that Celtic should win the inaugural Jimmy Falvey Memorial League as Jimmy was a great Celtic player until his untimely death three years ago and his brother Brendan scored and created a goal before retiring injured at half time.
