Historic night for Kerry District League

Another historic chapter was written on Friday night at the KDL Headquarters at Mounthawk Park, Tralee, when the contract for the building of full sized FIFA approved All-Weather Pitch was signed. The contract worth in excess of €360,000 was granted to Kelly Brothers, from Ballydesmond and last night Sean Kelly was present to sign the contract on behalf of his company, while Sean O’Keeffe (Chairman), John O Regan (Sec) and Murt Murphy (PRO) signed on behalf of the KDL.

Because of the late notice, unfortunately very few clubs were present to witness the signing, but it had to be done, as work will commence on this much needed project, within the next two weeks, with preparatory and clearing works taking place, before the new carpet from Lemonte Sports, will be laid. It is expected that all-Weather Pitch will be completed before June 30th.

The project got a major boost before Christmas when Minster Ring, thanks to the intervention of FAI CEO John Delaney granted the project €200,000 but remember this has been three long years on the pipeline and it has taken lots of hard work and planning by John O Regan and Sean O Keeffe and lots of patience.

It will be a tremendous asset to the league and will help a lot of clubs currently using Mounthawk Park. So we would like to thank our sponsors and Frank Hayes and Denny, part of the Kerry Group who has been with us all the way and also to you the clubs, who have contributed to funding this project, with those €2’s you so willingly played and at times resisted.

So it’s finally happened – you will see a state of the art All –Weather playing pitch at Mounthawk Park and at a meeting early next month, we will have exciting news on the U-17 National League
