Groups And Format Announced For Airtricity U17 League
The groups and format for the 2016 Airtricity Under-17 League have been announced by the Football Association of Ireland. This will be the first full season for the Under-17 League, following on from the interim season played at the end of 2015, which was won by Shamrock Rovers.
The League will kick off on the week-ending Sunday 20th March 2016 and will comprise 23 Clubs who will be split into two groups, Northern Elite Division and Southern Elite Division. The groups will be played over a two-round basis; each Club playing each other Club home and away. Upon the completion of the regular League fixtures, the top four Clubs in each of the Northern and Southern Elite Divisions will progress to the Champions Knockout Phase.
There will be an Under-17 League Cup and this will be played midweek, in a regionalised format.
Squads in the Under-17 League will consist of a maximum of 20 players.
