Killarney Celtic were crowned Greyhound Bar KO Cup Champions on Sunday for the first time since 2010 after they over came Castleisland Afc B team at the second attempt .

Killarney Celtic started the game with a very strong wind to their back and had the first chance of the game within the first minute when Brendan Falvey headed wide from a Wayne Sparling cross. Jamie Spillane then saw his well stuck free kick saved by Kevin Moran as Killarney Celtic pilled the pressure on a Castleisland side who were trying to hit their opponents on the counter attack against the strong wind. Peter McCarthy was next to go close for Celtic after good work from Brendan Falvey but again Kevin Moran saved .
Brian Spillane then headed over when he found himself unmarked from a Joe Hurley corner. Castleisland’s first attempt came in the 28th minute when Jonathan Downey picked out Danny Feehan but his effort from a tight angle hit the side netting. Roy Kelliher had to save from Timmy Walsh just before the break after good work from Jonathan Downey and Danny Feehan but neither side would find a break through in the opening 45 minutes.

Castleisland Would have been very happy to go in at half time level with such a strong wind against then and as they returned to the pitch for the second half the wind seemed to ease of a little but they had the opening chance of the half when Roy Kelliher held onto a well stuck free kick from Jonathan Downey. Minutes later the opening goal of the game came when Peter McCarthy got in behind the Castleisland B defence, where he pulled the ball back across the goal to Stephen McCarthy but his miss the ball and it was pounced upon by Brendan Falvey who made no mistake finding the corner of the net. Things got worse for Castleisland when in the celebration’s Daniel Downey received his second yellow card for an off the ball incident spotted by the match referee.

Killarney Celtic were now well on top with the extra man and Peter McCarthy again went close from a tight angle before Brian Spillane saw his free kick tipped over the bar by Kevin Moran. But with the score only at one nil their was still always a chance for Castleisland and Martin Moriarty went closest twice with headers first from a Steven McCarthy corner and then a Sean Og Ciardubhain free kick .
With ten minutes remaining the game was over as a contest when Celtic doubled their lead when Wayne Sparlings effort was pulled across the face of the goal and the unmarked Stephen McCarthy squeezed the ball home at a very tight angle. The scoring was finished in the final minute when Peter McCarthy finally got on the score sheet for Killarney Celtic.
