Tralee Dynamos 1-2 Killarney Celtic

By Tommy Naughton

The big game in Kerry on Sunday saw Tralee Dynamos and Killarney Celtic face each other in Cahermoneen Tralee . Just like on most other occasions when two good dies meet they spend most of the game cancelling each other out in the middle third with both defences well on top . Killarney Celtic will be delighted to win this one especially with so many new young players in their side this season .

The game was only six minutes old when Jonathan Hannafin and Aaron Houlihan play a lovely one two which saw Hannafin get to the ball before the on rushing Celtic keeper Gary Sugrue who took the player down and referee Stuart Templeman quickly pointed to the spot . James Sugrue stepped up and placed his penalty to the keepers right who manage to get a hand to the ball but was unable to stop it from going in to give the home side an early lead . Killarney Celtic were dealt another blow five minutes later when they lost Peter McCarthy through injury and was replaced by Stephen Devane who would have a big say in the final out come later in the match . Neither side could keep the possession for long or create any real goal scoring chances with the pressure of the opposition being put on all over the pitch . James Sugrue tried his look from distance but saw his volley miss the target . On the half hour mark Aaron Houlihan showed quick feet by beaten his man and curling a shot to the far corner , Gary Sugrue reacted quickly but could only parry the ball into the air in front of Anthony Murphy who saw his header rise over the bar . Gary Keane then had Killarney Celtics first shot on target from a fee kick which Josh o Reilly in the Tralee Dynamos goal dealt with . Two minute slater the game was all level , Paudie Clifford picked out the run of Cathal o Shea who held off the last defender and beat the advancing keeper with a shot into the far corner . Tralee Dynamos nearly grabbed the lead back immediately but Gintarus Paketuras saw his header from six yards out saved by Gary Sugrue . Neither side could get another clear chance and they went in all square at the break .

The second half was much like the first with neither side creating very much up front and the game became spoilt from a spectator point of view with the amount of fouls and stoppages . Aaron Houlihan had the first chance of the half but from a James Sugrue cross he mistimed his effort and was easily gathered by Sugrue . Killarney Celtic came close just before the hour mark when Paudie Clifford saw his effort saved by Josh o Reilly after good work from Stephen Hayes on the left wing . Shane Guthrie headed over for Dynamos from a Jonathan Hannafin cross as both sides look to finish the game in ninety minutes . The winning goal came with only fourteen minutes remaining after great work from William Courtney on the right side he squared the ball into the path of Stephen Devane who calmly slotted the ball home . Tralee Dynamos now through everything forward for the remaining minutes and Gary Sugrue had to be out quick to save at the feet of Steven Conway . Dynamos last chance came from a Steven Conway corner which saw Gintarus Paketarus jump highest in a crowded box but his header was just off target and the final whistle blew moments later .
