Rattoo Rovers will return to Denny Premier A after a years absence as the Denny Premier B league champions after they over came the challenge of Inter Kenmare on Saturday evening in Mounthawk Park.
The game was only sixty seconds old when Rattoo Rovers Mike Hussey broke into the Inter Kenmare penalty area before laying the ball off to Eddie Joy whose fierce shot was parried away by Inter Kenmare keeper Gary Cassidy but the rebound fell straight into the path of Eddie Joy and this time he made no mistake and drilled the ball home. This seemed to shock Inter Kenmare and it took them a long time to get to grips with the fast start of Rattoo Rovers who could have been two goals ahead after twenty minutes when Liam Boyle close range effort was wide of the near post with just the keeper to beat from close range.
Moments later Gary Cassidy produced a great save to deny Liam Boyle as his strike from a tight angle looked like it was going to find the near top corner. It took 26 minutes for Inter Kenmare to register their first real chance of the game after Mark Granville beat three players while going across the eighteen yard box before his shot was just wide of the far post. The heat was really beginning to take its tool on both teams and chances were very few but with just four minutes remaining in the first half Rattoo Rovers doubled their lead when Liam Boyle broke through the Inter off side trap at the half way line and when faced with just Gary Cassidy to beat his shot found the net off the bottom of the post to send Rattoo Rovers two goals up at half time.
Inter Kenmare came out in the second half a much better team as they began to get their passing game together and began to push Rattoo Rovers back and on the hour mark they pulled a goal back. Mark Granville picked up the ball on the edge of the Rattoo penalty area after a series of one touch passes. Granville managed somehow to slip the ball in behind the defence and into the path of the onrushing Connie Cremin whose finish found the far corner giving John McCarthy in the Rattoo goal no chance.
This goal seemed to reawaken Rattoo Rovers and ten minutes later they doubled their lead again and this time with a goal worthy of winning any final. Aidan Boyle picked up the ball in the centre of the pitch about 25 yards out before he unleashed a shot the flew into the top corner where Gary Cassidy at full stretch had no chance of saving.
Inter Kenmare never gave up and in the final ten minutes had chances from Mark Granville and Denis Cronin but both were just off target and Rattoo Rovers went on to see out the final few minutes to claim the Denny Premier B League title .
