Tralee Dynamos 0-3 St Brendans Park

By Tommy Naughton

St Brendans Park are up to fourth place in the league standings after this win . Not only did they take the three points but also the bragging rights in the big Tralee derby . As always derby games can be explosive at time and this was no different with three goals , nine yellow cards and one red in the ninety minutes .

The first real chance of the game came fell to the Park from a shot from David Courtney from outside the penalty area . After being set up by Ryan Downey , Courtney’s first time effort crashed back off the crossbar . Tralee Dynamos responded straight away and would have been ahead only for Jamie Kelly to go full length to finger tip a John Farragher effort around the far post . The Park took the lead just before the twentieth minute mark after a mix up in the Tralee Dynamos defence . Jonathan Burrows miss placed back pass was lucky not to go into his own net but bounce wide of the far post for a corner . From the resulting Fergal Maunsel corner Martin Bower rose highest to head home at the near post .
The Park double their lead just after the half hour mark when a ball over the top by Ryan Downey picked out Fergal Maunsell just inside the Tralee Dynamos half on the left wing . His pace took him away from the chasing defenders and he cut inside before curling the ball into the far corner of the net passed the advancing keeper . Tralee Dynamos nearly grabbed a goal back immediately when a free from Derek o Brien was knocked into the path of Maurice o Rahilly by Gintarus Paketarus whose well hit strike was touched over the cross bar by Jamie Kelly . The remainder of the half saw Dynamos pin the Park back with a number of corners but the away side went in at the break 2 goals to the good .

Early in the second half Derek o Brien put Danny Roche through but his effort from a tight angle missed at the near post . Martin Bowler near grabbed his second with a glancing header that flew over the bar when he got on the end of a Ryan Downey corner . Dynamos were now dominating the possession stakes with the Park happy to sit back and hit their opponents on the break with the energetic Fergal Maunsel playing up top by himself . Maurice o Rahilly got in behind the park defence on the hour mark where his effort was saved for a corner . The resulting corner was taken quickly to Derek o Brien . O Brien picked o Jonathan Burrows at the back post where his header bounced across the face of the goal and wide missing four dynamos players on its way . Dynamos were now throwing everything at the park and great blokes from Martin Bowler and David Magee denied Mark Fitzgerald and Maurice o Rahilly . Jamie Kelly denied Danny Roche from inside the six yard box when it look like Dynamos were going to get a lifeline with nine minutes remaining . The killer goal came in the 87th minute when David Courtney intercepted a misplaced pass out of the back by Jonathan Burrows . Courtney sent man of the match Fergal Maunsel though on the left wing where his curling effort was saved by Josh o Reilly but Courtney had followed up to volley the ball into ,t he empty net . David Courtney’s goal celebration saw him remover his jersey over his head for which he received his second yellow card of the game .
