SSE Airtricity U17 League

Sunday 09th April 2017
UCD  1-1 Kerry .
Kerry picked up their first point of the season away against UCD in Dublin on Sunday and in truth they could have taken all three points only for a very late penalty awarded to UCD. Kerry took the lead in the 17th minute when a through ball from Martin Coughlan found Dillon Robinson who beat the last defender and keeper to score. Kerry were unlucky not to have extended their lead with some excellent play from Thomas Burke and Kevin Williams saw Dillon Robinson’s effort come back of the post. While Kerry were dominating the possesion stakes Kerry keeper Robert Osborne had to be alert to bring of a number of fine saves to keeep his side infront. Michale O’Gara did manage to put the ball in the UCD net in the 63rd minute only for it to be rule out for offside. Then in the 83rd minute came the controversial penalty decision . A high ball in towards the Kerry box where the Kerry derfenders challanged the UCD forwards, the referee awarded a free kick to UCD but his assistant made the decision that the foul had taken inside the penalty area. The referee change his decision and awarded the penalty which they scored to level the game. A much better performance from Kerry from last weeks second half performance and now they will look to the visit of Cabinteely Fc in Mounthawk Park on Sunday April 23rd .

FAI Junior Cup Semi Final

Saturday 08th April 2017
Killarney Celtic  1-1  Sheriff YC , AET Sheriff wo 4-2 on penalties .
Killarney Celtic’s amazing run in the FAI Junior Cup ended on Saturday night at the semi final stage in a dramatic penalty shoot out. Celtic had the better of the chances in the opening half and Matt Keane was unlucky not to open the scoring only for Lee Murphy to deny him with a goal line clearance. The second half saw the cup holders Sheriff take the game to Celtic but Jamie Spillane and John McDonagh were outstanding in the Celtic defence and neither side could find a goal in the 90 minutes. Sheriff opened the scoring in the second minute of the second period of extra time with a strike from Thomas Dunne. Things looked to get worse for Celtic with Chris O’Leary was then sent off for a second bookable offence.  But just like in the previuos rounds Celtic with ten minute battled back and were awarded a penalty in the final minute of the game. Jamie Spillane took on the responsibility and made no mistake driving the ball low to the keepers right to send the game to a penalty shootout. Roy Kelliher saved Sheriff’s first penalty low to his right but when Sheriff’s keeper Lee Murohy saved Killarney Celtic’s third and fourth penalties they only needed to score their fifth which they did to book their place at the Aviva Stadium for next months final . Well done to everyone involved at Killarney Celtic on reaching the semi final and to Mastergeeha Fc on hosting the Semi final at Kilbrean Park.
