FAI Junior Cup 6th Round (Last 32)
Sunday 15th January 2017
Newmarket Celtic (Clare) 2-3 Killarney Celtic .
Janesboro (Limerick) 2-1 Dingle Bay Rovers .
Killarney Celtic are into the last 16 of the FAI Junior Cup after a terrific win away against Newmarket Celtic. After falling behind early on Celtic responded brilliantly and were level within minutes when Cathal O’Shea put through Wayne Sparling and he made no mistake. Killarney Celtic then went head when Sparling got his second after racing onto a through ball before lifting it over the advancing keeper . As the half time whistle approached both side were reduced to ten men but Killarney Celtic remained ahead at the break. Newmarket levelled the game on the hour mark from what seem like a very soft penalty decision. With the game looking like it would need extra time to decide a winner up popped Chris O’Leary to powerfully head home a Conor Randall cross . Killarney Celtic could have killed the game off in the 89th minute only to see the every reliable Gary Keane miss a penalty but they still help on for a famous victory and now await Thursday 7th round draw at the Aviva Stadium .
Sadly their wont be two Kerry sides in the last 16 after Dingle Bay Rovers were narrowly beaten by the competitions second favourites Janesboro in Limerick. Janesboro raced into a two goal lead within the opening four minutes of the first half. Sean Fitzgerald pulled a goal back for Dingle four minutes after the restart but sadly they could not get a second goal and their great run in this season’s competition ended. Dingle Bay Rovers will now turn their attentions to trying to retain their Denny Premier A League title .
