Clarification and correction of misrepresentation in report on KDL AGM
The KDL rarely comment on reports in the media except when they are not factual or misrepresent the facts.
A Report in week’s Kerryman on the KDL AGM contain inaccuracies that we feel have to be corrected.
It is factual that Tadgh Brosnan ( Mastergeeha) was nominated for a position on the Management Committee of the Kerry District League and joined the management team as one of the six members who work with the KDL Officers in running the league. But at no stage was it suggested that Tadgh Brosnan was to replace Tommy Naughton as KDL Social Media and Website Administrator. It was news to all concerned to read in the newspaper on Wednesday that Mr Brosnan was now a website administrator.
The facts of the matter which were explained by KDL secretary John O’Regan at he AGM was that Tommy Naughton had intimated that he did not want to involved for the coming season because a small number of clubs and individuals were contacting him at inappropriate times sometimes post -midnight and this was proving stressful to Tommy and his family. The Sec further intimated that he was hoping that when the dust would settle Tommy might be willing to help out with the KDL Website as it is work he enjoys and he is extremely proficient at. So there will be tables – results and fixtures on a Sunday night regardless. As another matter of fact there are only two administrators of the KDL Website – PRO Mortimer Murphy and Tommy Naughton.
The KDL also wish to point out that the Financial Report which is prepared by an accountant was distributed to all clubs present but as has been KDL practice –the report is handed back after discussion and it being approved.
While the report did report a healthy balance the treasurer pointed out that there were accruals (monies owed for period but not paid when books were closed) that would have to be deducted. These related to Insurance, water rates and the KDL Lotto Jackpot which currently is in excess of €8000.
It is true that Treasurer refused to reveal the sponsorship received from Kerry Group but this is common practice in most sporting bodies as such monies are commercially sensitive and sponsors often ask that this figure is not revealed for very obvious reasons.
Hopefully this will clear up any misrepresentation of the facts on what happened at the KDL AGM in this erroneous report.
The media are always welcome at our meetings- all we ask is that they report what goes on factually. We are very appreciative of the publicity that all the local media afford our games both the print and Radio and thank you for the season that is about to end.
