Kerry will be hoping to beat the Rossies and reach Oscar Final

Kerry will try once again to reach the Oscar Traynor Cup Final after some close calls , losing twice at the semi final stage over the last four years, firstly away to the Desmond League who went on to win the competition and last year, Kerry lost their proud unbeaten home record in the Cup to a very good Limerick side.

Kerry have been preparing well for their semi final meeting with Roscommon on Sunday at Mounthawk Park Tralee ( 1pm kick-off) but there is an injury doubt about their captain Peter McCarthy who injured his ankle playing with his club Killarney Celtic on Sunday last and McCarthy faces a race against time to be fit.

Kerry boss Tim Lynch is happy with the way training has gone “The response to training has been very good especially since our last minute escape away to the Leinster Senior League so everyone is up for the game and we have strengthened our squad since that game”

Lynch is aware that Kerry face a huge task if they are beat Roscommon

“It will not be easy. We reached this stage last year and failed to beat Limerick, who also ended a long unbeaten home record. Sunday will be tough because Roscommon neat Limerick in the quarterfinals so we will have to play at our very best if we are to make the final. I think the hunger will be there because a lot of players have lost two semi finals and there are a some of lads around or beyond thirty and would be thinking that it is probably last chance saloon for them”

The Kerry boss is hoping for a big turnout of supporters from around the county “The support we got back in day when we played in the Eircom U-21 League was almost worth a goal to us so I am hoping on Sunday for a big turnout as it will mean a lot to the players”
